Its always quite a feeling when one prepares to enter into the University....The Anxiety mixed with tension and fear due to various stories from those who have been into the system.
Their greatest survival asset is always their 'Innocence and unsuspecting instint' due to their anxiousness to resume,start registration and enter into the acclaimed HIGHER INSTITUTION and start all the hustles and bustles of a typical Nigerian student...This Restlessness and anxiousness couldn't be more heightened than a situation where their screening is halted and registration postponed due to...
an unfortunate strike....They'll become frustrated at home and some might even regret their choice of institution.It will become more disheartening for them to hear that their colleagues in other institutions are already getting ready for their first semester examination...WHAT?? They're preparing for exam and i'm still at home like a JAMBITO??
This fundamental question fueled from their FRUSTRATION and INNOCENCE makes them always alert to new information pertaining their resumption (a trait which would prove useful while in the system). This makes them always ready to accept any information that comes their way and clinge to, and if not careful fall victims to dubious and corrupt minds.
These parasitic 419ners feed on this anxiety of the INNOCENT UNSUSPECTING FRESHER and you see things like:
1. DROP YOUR PHONE NUMBER HERE FOR WHATSAPP CHAT ON THE LATEST DEVELOPMENT ON CAMPUS GIST AND REGISTRATION PROCESSES.
2. FALSE RUMOURS TO ALWAYS KEEP YOU ANXIOUS AND UNSUSPECTING OF ITS DUBIOUS INTENTS.
The danger of the first, is that fresh students willingly give their phone numbers to a stranger expecting him to form a 'WhatsApp group' for all the students. He might form it, but you very soon start complaining 'My account has been hacked', 'I keep receiving spam messages in my email' etc. Some of these people sell your numbers and information to other group and organizations to send spam messages etc. Which eventually causes you inconveniences etc. Because we are in an Information Technology Age, imagine what happens if your account is used to commit a crime you didn't commit?? Who would believe you??
I want to use this medium to enlighten the freshers to be careful to whom they give their information to.
